Sir William Orpen was a Stillorgan-born artist. He attended the Metropolitan School of Art in Dublin (now NCAD) and then the Slade Art School in London. He was an official war artist during WWI.
There is currently an exhibition of his paintings, drawings, illustrated letters and memorabilia in Farmleigh Gallery, Phoenix Park, Dublin which runs till 25th Aug. 2024. The exhibition also contains several works by various members of his family, including his niece Bea Orpen.
