Kit Casey, Orpen’s Daughter, when asked in 1996, thought that the man was someone called Stagg, the female model looking directly at the artist was Mrs Vera Hone, and believed the third model, who is topless and whose face is covered by her hair, was her mother Grace (it wasn’t PC for an artist to paint his wife in the nude).

The 5 in the auction are: – After Bathing, Sewing the Seed, Winner, Breeze and The Bather. Each with printed title and signature below the image, published (as a set of 10) by the Chenil Gallery, Chelsea, 1913, plate size 9 and a half by 12 and three quarter inches), or inverse, matching black frames, glazed.
