Condition: This work appears to be in very good condition.

Published by the Fine Art Society, London, in a limited edition of 300, circa 1919.
The sitter is Vera Hone, wife of W. B. Yeats’ biographer Joseph Hone and a neighbour of Orpen’s at Howth. Renowned as Orpen’s favourite model, she is depicted here in an Armagh Infantry militia tunic of about 1865, holding a shako of the Roscommon Infantry militia of about 1830 (see Arnold, Orpen: Mirror to an Age, page 285).
